Imagine you and your friend are having a heated debate.
One thing leads to another and you make, what they believe to be, an insensitive comment. They abruptly hang up the phone.
You don’t hear from them for days. A few weeks go by and they post a video on their YouTube channel in which they address a conversation they had with a friend a while back.
In their video, they said that they had an argument and that their friend made an insensitive comment that they could not condone and now that person was canceled.
You put two and…
How To Build & Strengthen Your Relationship With God
By now, you know that a relationship with God is built on faith, but when was the last time you exercised that faith? What actionable steps do you take to prove your faith?
See belief is just one part of faith. Yet without action, that belief is meaningless.
The two go hand in hand.
If your actions do not match up with your belief then your faith is weak because your actions do not support your beliefs.
If you think it will rain today would you not bring an umbrella?
How To Avoid Religion to Have A Godly Relationship
The crazy thing about religion is that it has nothing to do with your relationship with God.
Unfortunately, many Christians have confused religion with relationship. We think that our righteous works put us in God’s good standing or that our relationship with Him is based on how well we follow some moral compass.
However, this logic is ill-advised because relationship has nothing to do with religion. But because we have been Sunday schooled with non-biblical church commandments we supplement our relationship with religion.
So what is a relationship with God supposed…
“How can you hate me when you don’t even know me?” — Daryl Davis
At the age of 10, Daryl Davis sought out the answer to this question.
As a black boy in Boston, he already had several encounters with racism and at such a young age he couldn’t understand why someone would hate him because of the color of his skin.
But it wasn’t until his adult life that he would finally solve his dilemma. But, to do so he had to do the unthinkable.
He decided to meet with the imperial wizard of the Klu Klux Klan (KKK)…
“We were protesting months ago, we’re protesting now and we still have yet to see change”
These were the words from one Philadelphia protestor after hearing Breonna Taylor’s killers were not convicted of murder.
Despite his mask covering most of his face, I could still see the frustration. Even with his voice being muffled, I could hear that he was fed up by the lack of justice.
He wanted the protests to work. He wanted the marching to create some type of change. And yet it didn’t.
But, as I listened to the words that came out of his mouth…
“It is linguistically incorrect to call myself a black Christian” — Tony Evans
In 1986 during a sermon Rev. Tony Evans gave this statement. He explained that by calling yourself a black Christian or a white Christian means that black and white become an adjective and Christian becomes a noun.
And since the noun must conform to the adjective, your blackness or your whiteness dictates what your Christianity should look like.
Yet, when you allow your race to determine the extent of your faith how much of a Christian are you?
We have to stop letting societal peer pressure dictate…
Imagine being scared to get in your car and drive because the police might kill you during a routine pull-over.
Imagine that the only place you and your father can spend quality time together is in jail.
Imagine being beat out for a decent job because of the color of your skin and not the quality of your resume.
This is what it feels like to be black in America.
Yet some white people still don’t get it. Some white people still live comfortably in their suburban homes without a care in the world to know or even understand what’s…
At one time or another, we’ve all prayed for a girlfriend, boyfriend, or spouse.
Then someone comes along, who you initially thought may be the one, but they end up not being the person you expected them to be. They hurt you, robbed you of your happiness, and wasted months even years of your life.
You blame God for sending them into your life. You think ‘how could God be so cruel to me’.
But was it really God who sent them into your life or did you choose them?
A lot of times we like to put the blame…
Have you ever felt that God didn’t live up to what he said he would do in his word?
You’ve read Matthew 7:7, Matthew 21:22, and John 14:13–14 and followed them to a T. You prayed, you asked for deliverance in his name and you had faith but still, nothing.
Since your request to God, you may have lost faith that you will receive what you asked for or maybe you’ve lost faith in God altogether.
However, a request delayed should never be mistaken for a request denied.
Many have come to believe this fallacy that whatever they ask for…
“Nothing is more transformative than that [Clothes] kinda like Genesis. Adam messed up, got caught. First thing he did, he got a loincloth” — Dapper Dan
When I heard Dapper Dan say this, it gave me chills. It got me to thinking that ever since the beginning of time people have used clothes to change something about themselves.
Even today we use clothes to cover up what we don’t want others to see, change our moods, or people’s perception of us.
We buy expensive clothes in order to feel good about what we don’t have and follow trends so that…
