Why Religion Is Holding Your Relationship With God Hostage (pt 2.)

How To Build & Strengthen Your Relationship With God

By now, you know that a relationship with God is built on faith, but when was the last time you exercised that faith? What actionable steps do you take to prove your faith?

See belief is just one part of faith. Yet without action, that belief is meaningless.

The two go hand in hand.

If your actions do not match up with your belief then your faith is weak because your actions do not support your beliefs.

If you think it will rain today would you not bring an umbrella?

Faith works the same way. If you claim to believe in God you must act on this belief by doing what His word says.

Thus, in order to have strong faith, your belief must be supported by your actions.

Strong Faith Is Supported By Works

“So then, as the body without the spirit is dead, also faith without actions is dead — James 2:26 (GNT)

Nothing about your faith should go without action.

In fact, it’s impossible.

From the moment you became a believer you had to prove your faith by your actions because it is a prerequisite for salvation.

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by our faith that we are put right with God; it is by our confession that we are saved” — Romans 10:9–10 (GNT)

While we must believe in God, without an act of confession we cannot be saved.

Yet, the same actions taken for salvation are not the same ones required for a strong relationship with Christ.

Instead, action needed for relationship varies yet they are continual throughout your Christian walk thus providing enduring and unwavering faith.

But in order for those actions to hold up over time they must be tested.

“My friends, consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure. Make sure that your endurance carries you all the way without failing, so that you may be perfect and complete lacking nothing” — James 1:2–4 (GNT)

Faith is like a building, you can’t make it and not expect it to go through some kind of storm.

Eventually, your building will encounter troublesome weather, and when it does it needs to be able to hold up.

When life’s storms come your way, when temptation comes your way, when covid comes your way your faith must be strong enough to hold up.

It should not sway, it should not move, and it should not fall.

Faith is like a building, you can’t make it and not expect it to go through some kind of storm.

When you know that your faith has the ability to endure whatever life brings it then you know you have a strong relationship with God.

“But how do I get the ability to endure?

“But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you…But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all” — James 1:5–6 (GNT)

By ourselves, we are weak against trials and tribulations. We turn to our own devices and look to others for help. But people will fail you.

Instead, pray to God for wisdom because that wisdom will provide discernment and that discernment will provide endurance and that endurance will make you perfect and complete lacking nothing.

Because when you are wise you know that the foundation you must depend on is that of the highest power which is in Christ Jesus.

And when your foundation is built on Christ your faith can withstand any storm thus building up your relationship with Him.

Your relationship with God is weak if your faith is not supported by action.

That’s because faith is not built on belief alone but on action as well. And when your actions do not fall in line with your belief then it causes your faith to be weak.

Only when your works support your belief will your faith and your relationship with God be strengthened.

So when trials and temptations come your way endure them so that your faith can be built up. When life’s storms try to knock down your faith be firm in the Lord so that your faith can hold up.

Because when you have the ability to endure your relationship with God is strengthened and you will be perfect and complete lacking nothing.
